of Hongkong appointed on 3rd February, 1921.

In accordance with Your Excellency's instructions

we have considered the provisional report presented by the

Commission to the Far Eastern Ports to the National Council:

for Combating Venereal Diseases and the recommendations made

therein.

We held four meetings on the 30th March, 6th

April, 18th April, and 22nd April.

On the 6th April the following witnesses were

present:- Colonel L. Humphry, C.M.G., R.A.M.C., (nominated by the General Officer Commanding the Forces in China), Surgeon-Commander A. A. Sanders, R.N., (nominated by the Commodore), G. Montague Haraton, Esq., M.D. and Dr. Ma Luk.

On the 18th April the following witnesses were present: The Principal Civil Medical Officer (J. T. C. Johnson, Esq., F.R.C.S., Edin., D.T.M. & H. Cantab., Lieutenant-Commander Conway Hako, R.N.R., Aoting Harbour -- Master, and Mr. T. H. King, Deputy Superintendent of Police

On the 22nd April the following witnesses were present: H. H. Scott, Esq., M.D. Lond., D.P.H., R.C.P.S. Irel., Government Bacteriologist and G. H. Thomas, Esq., M.D., B.Sc., (Hongkong), Medical Officer in charge of the Tung Wa Hospital.

3. Having heard the evidence referred to above we

considered it desirable to obtain reports as to the incidence of venereal disease among the following national- -ities and classes of persons in the Colony:-

(a) The British resident community.

(b) The British seafaring community.

(c) The Potuguese community.

(d) The Chinese community of the merchant and shop

keeping class08.

(e) The Indian community including the Indian Police

and Gaol Wardere.

(f) The inmates of Victoria Gaol and Laichikok Prison.
